People With Migraines More Likely To Be Depressed

Woman with headache, especially migraines, are in a greater number likely to suffer from depression, feel fatigued, and have a host of other austere physical symptoms, according to a medical trial published in the January 9, 2007, issue of Neurology, the scientific journal of the American Academy of Neurology.

The clinical trial involved 1080 women who buy citalopram online at headache clinics in three different countries. Of the woman surveyed, 545 reported episodic headache (fewer than 15 headaches monthly) and 887 had chronic headache. Ninety percent/% of the patient were tested with migraines.

The clinical research found people with chronic headache were four times more inclined than those with episodic headache to report symptoms of major Manic Depression. Chronic headache sufferers were also three times more predisposed to report a high degree of symptoms related to headache, pain or problems during intercourse.

Among patient diagnosed with severely disabling migraine, the clinical trial found the likelihood of major Depression increased 32-fold if the man also reported other severe symptoms.

“Painful physical symptoms should stir up or be a manifestation of major Major Depression in women with chronic headache, which can be treated if you buy topamax online and Major Depression may heighten pain perception,” said medical trial author Gretchen Tietjen, MD with the University of Toledo-Health Science Campus and a member of the American Academy of Neurology. “This dependence between migraine and major Psychotic Depression suggests a usual neurobiology.”

Tietjen says clinical research are underway to test whether severe headache, severe physical symptoms and major Manic Depression could be linked through dysfunction of serotonin in the central nervous system.

“Regardless of what’s causing the link between migraine and Major Depression, psychiatric disease such as Depression complicates headache treatment and can stir up poorer sequel for headache treatment,” said Tietjen.

The study was helped, in part, by the American Headache Society, which considers 18 million American woman suffer from headache.

The American Academy of Neurology, an association of more than 12.000 neurologists and neuroscience professionals, is dedicated to ameliorating woman care through instruction and clinical research. A neurologist is a osteopath with a wide knowladge of diagnosing, treating and managing disorders of the brain and nervous system such as stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, Parkinson disorder, and multiple sclerosis.
